Vice-Chancellor's visit

Alumni from the east and west coasts gathered at receptions in New York and San Francisco in November - both to network and to meet up with the University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Arthur.

Professor Arthur, who also attended a reception in Toronto, was joined by Michelle Calvert and Jayne Glennon of the University's alumni and development team.

Alumni who attended were keen to hear details of all the exciting developments happening in Leeds. If you haven't been following news from campus, click on the link at the foot of this page to keep up with the latest news from our old University.

Those of you who came to the New York event may have met Peter Cheney (Bacteriology and Biochemistry 1969).  Peter is the newest member of the NAFUL board and I am delighted to welcome him to the team.

We are very grateful to Peter and his wife Sue who have made a significant donation to NAFUL which has been put to immediate use supporting Leeds students from less privileged backgrounds and also giving the brightest students the rare and valuable opportunity to join research projects while still undergraduates.

Message from the President

I'm proud to be a University of Leeds graduate – and if you're anything like me, you'll remember your time at Leeds with great fondness.

As President of NAFUL, it gives me immense pleasure to know that the work we are doing is making a real difference to the University and to today’s students.

I visited the campus again recently and I have seen how it is changing.  Its research, facilities, teaching and reputation are each growing stronger every year, in line with the University's vision of a place in world's top 50. At the same time, I've been fortunate to see first hand the important part that grants given by NAFUL are making in supporting the next generation of Leeds students and giving them the best possible experience at University.

Allied to that, NAFUL makes each of us a part of the Leeds community for life.  So stay involved – take part in our events program and enable the community to grow by encouraging your alumni friends to enter their contact information on our website – and help NAFUL to support the University of Leeds to achieve its world class ambitions.

Richard Ortoli (French, 1971)
President of NAFUL

Big Match success

Thank you to all of you who helped NAFUL to make a major donation to the University's Big Match appeal. This enabled us to take advantage of a UK Government program through which every three dollars that NAFUL granted to the University released a further dollar of UK Government funding. The match funding scheme ended in the summer - and alumni worldwide helped the University to release more than £400,000 (around $625,000) of Government funding.
